Activities To Do At Home

Got the kids at home for break?
In addition to the activity packet from the teacher, here are some ideas of what to do the additional 6-8 hours per day you have them with you at home. Here’s a list to get you started of activities that have little involvement or brain power if you also still need to be working at home. :p

*This is based on ideas for a 5-7 year old with no/little parent involvement.

Have them…

  • Write a weekly market list

  • Circle items needed for the house looking at a Longs/market paper

  • Build with Legos

  • Practice sight words flash cards

  • Read a book/find sight words in a book

  • Paint/draw/color

  • Fold a white piece of paper in half and make cards to have on hand for occasions for others all throughout the year. You’ll be glad when you need them (Birthday, Thank You, Congratulations, etc)

  • Play educational computer games

  • Look up books they want to find at the next library visit

  • Shop online and add things to a wish list

  • Practice playing “Speed” or memory/matching card games

  • Line up Dominoes

  • Practice typing on a blank Word doc

  • Draw on an iPad

  • Play Jenga or a favorite board game

  • Practice taking photos of objects around the house

  • Make up a dance or puppet show

  • Imaginary play with stuffed friends and things they find around the house

  • Collect items they can donate to other kids/families in need (see “Donate” post)

  • Laundry or other chores (see “Choose a Chore for More $ post)

  • Clean the house! LOL (see “Brown Baskets” post for this one)

Good luck! And feel free to share more ideas with me too! :) I’m happy to hear more!!!

Do what works for you! Think about your situation and personal goals for you and your child. Then decide based on what will be best for your family.
