Pet Bunnies

We got bunnies for Christmas. I am officially a first time pet owner beyond fish. ;P

Recently, everyone is asking us, “How did this happen? What made you get bunnies? Are they easy to take care of?”

It started because our daughter wanted live animals for Christmas and asked Santa for bunnies. We found out our friends had tons of baby dwarf bunnies they were trying to find homes for.

I guess this whole experience could fall into the category of parenting, routines, & cleaning. Chris wanted our kids to learn responsibility (parenting), wanted them to continue to go outside and get fresh air every day after school (routines) and for me, while they played outside, it gives me time to clean inside!

So, we got 3 baby dwarf bunnies for the kiddos and I must admit, they are so cute and I love them more than I expected I would. I thought they’d just hop away, but when I catch them, they just cruz and sit on my tummy. :p

Meet Oreo, Cinnamon, and Apple Jack (named by the kiddos)!

They don’t make noise, they don’t smell, and they’re pretty chill pets. What we had to buy to prepare:

  • Hutch

  • Hay

  • Pellets

  • Water bottle

  • Cage mats (to make cleaning the hutch easier)

That’s it! We throw in hay, pellets, veggies and stuff from our garden once a day and refill their water bottle. We slide out the mat at the bottom of the hutch, dump it daily and shoot it down with the water hose. We let the bunnies out once a day to run around & they seem to enjoy munching on our grass/weeds.

I don’t know much else about bunnies, so I’ll be learning or if you have any advice, please write and let me know! It would be a big help!

If you’re looking for a little friend for you child, seems like these are pretty simple (and cute) so far!
