If you don’t need it or don’t love it, consider donating it.
I love simplifying our home and my kids have come to love “donation drop offs” knowing that when they make room, it provides opportunities for new toys/clothes and gives an opportunity to another boy/girl.
We’ve been donating to The Salvation Army for years because we love this non-profit international organization and the percentage to the dollar that that goes directly to those in need locally and around the world.
The drop off’s at the Honolulu ARC (Adult Rehabilitation Center) are always simple and those that receive the goods are always so grateful. And I know why.
Everything anyone donates there, is part of the training program for the men at that rehab center. They sort through all of the items trying not to send anything to the dump, they clean, price, and put them in their Thrift Store that brings in revenue to support their program, treatments, and housing. It’s a much needed source of income so every donation directly affects their progression.
You clean your house. You keep our landfills empty. You do good for our community.
“One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”
erin’s experience tip:
Tax donation write offs are easy too with their new QR code system and logging everything online. Take the kids with you. Seeing where their things go and even taking them in the Thrift store to see where others can purchase their things is a great life lesson. :) And you may find some treasures in the shop too!
