The Salvation Army

If you’re looking for a place to serve and a non-profit organization to support, check out The Salvation Army!

Their mission: “The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.”

I love serving on their Honolulu Advisory Board for the past several years and am a founding board member and past Chair for their young professional board as well, Echelon.

But even if you’re not a part of their board, there are so many opportunities to help serve this wonderful organization locally here in Hawai`i, in the US, and all over the world!

In just this upcoming holiday season alone, you can:

  • Help set up or serve meals at their annual Thanksgiving dinner at the Blaisdell Center.

  • Ring the Red Kettle Bell at various locations with your own club, group, or team.

  • Shop for Angel Tree Gifts at the mall with friends or give online from the comfort of home. (Our team at work does this together every year and really enjoy it!)

  • Create your own fundraising page to share online or become a corporate Red Kettle sponsor and donate.

If you’re a young professional looking to serve regularly, Echelon havs many opportunities to help raise funds to support kids in school needing school supplies, serve as a role model visiting kids in schools, packing meals for kids to take home on the weekends, and so much more!

There are other countless opportunities to serve whether helping hand write thank you cards to donors, donating to their Thrift Store, or serving at one of their rehabilitation sites, there is a place for you where your time, treasure, or talents are appreciated!

erin’s tip

It feels so good to serve and as it says in Acts 20:35 “It is more blessed to give than receive.” Serve others and see for yourself!
