Book of Psalms

If you love poetry or music, the book of Psalms in the Bible seems to have a rhythm that just flows from the pages into your heart. And when you speak it, it flows from your breath to the world in an impactful and artful way.

Psalms is filled with a range of emotion from hope to cries out to the Lord for strength, protection, rest, and encouragement as we trust in Him.

I am currently reading Psalms and only on Psalm 24 at the moment, but wanted to take a pause to share Psalm 23 which is a famous one and one of my favorites. It’s the scripture my grandpa Richard Kanno had my uncle Willy read to him as he recited along with his last breath here on Earth before being with the Lord in heaven.

Psalm 23

“The LORD is my shepard, I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures,

he leads me beside quiet waters,

he refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley,

I will fear no evil,

for you are with me;

your rod and your staff,

they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

You anoint my head with oil;

my cup overflows.

Surely your goodness and love will follow me

all the days of my life,

and I will dwell in the house of the LORD

forever.”

May you be encouraged and blessed.

Miss you gramps and thank you for teaching our family about the Lord. Love you!

erin’s tip

Not sure where to start reading in the Bible? I was once told to read the next book, Proverbs, one chapter a day because there are 31 chapters so it will help you get started as a routine to read one each day, for one month.

Another option is Psalms because of the sing-song feel of the writing, it’s a lot like music and poetry. There are 150 of them, but they are really short and easy to read so if you read 3 a day, it would be a great way to end this year.
