Birthday Party Planning
March madness for me means a month of birthday parties!
Our two kids and three of my nephews have birthdays in March and right after are a bunch more of us in the family in April.
For a parenting blog this week, I thought I’d share with you how I keep birthday parties sweet and simple.
The past 3 years were “covid” years so we didn’t have parties for the kids. Just simple outdoor activities like horseback riding with 1 or 2 other friends. But now that they can finally party, my 6 year old wanted his first party with friends he could invite from school. It would also finally be a chance for me to meet some of his new Kindergarten friends’ parents for the first time.
That meant thinking about events again! The theme, favors, food, and the big one…a location where I could let 5 turning 6 year old boys run around safely while I kept one eye on them and could also comfortably have a conversation with the adults.
We went with Funtastic Kidzone in Pearlridge thanks to a recommendation from another parent who already tested it out with their son. (thanks Grant)! Read more about that place in our blog HERE.
But for the checklist of all the things to make this a sweet success, click the downloadable/printable birthday party planning form below! Yes, I made my first downloadable for you!
I already shared it with one friend who was so thankful I thought through “all the things” (disclaimer, I probably didn’t and missed something) but she was so glad she could just work off of mine.
The biggest tip I have is to start with the location, date and time that works for you. Then figure out a theme your kid will love.
The big humbug for me at birthday parties is cutting cake right so there are enough pieces, neatly plating the pieces, passing out the plates, and cleaning up! So I did a “cake-less” party with Choco le`a chocolates instead! A 2pc box of Birthday cake truffles were my '“slices of cake.” I opened just one box and put a candle in it. The birthday boy blew it out without getting his germs on the rest of the pieces. Then told the kids to all pick one box. They ate it and the parents took theirs home. Done! Voila!
And the boxes were so easy to customize to the theme simply by taping on some Pokemon stickers after I picked them up! Took me all of 5 minutes.
Have fun with the birthday parties back on parents!

Do what works for you and your family. Main thing is the kid is happy, the friends are safe and have a good time, and you can enjoy yourself in the process too! ;) Use my free downloadable/printable planning checklist to help bring some peace to the process!
