Volcano Glow
This was the glow between 24 and 25.
A quick trip to the Big Island and stay at Kilauea Volcano camp was planned just two days after eruption #24 and we left one day before eruption #25. We were almost there and just there and missed the magnificent spewing of lava hundreds of feet into the air.
But we did see this volcano glow one night.
And although we were super grateful to be there and witness this on a quiet night with a group of friends, what I failed to do was pray. What happened was I didn’t forget, but instead, I just waited in anticipation thinking our chances were good because it was active and had just erupted and our friends were looking out longingly and saying “Come on Pele.”
It was after we left when we saw on the volcano’s live feed camera that she erupted again, I felt as if God was saying, “I could have done this for you if you had you just prayed.” And not only that, but “I wanted to do this for you and your friends if you had just prayed and asked me.”
I wish I had.
I knew in that moment that God had wanted to receive all of the glory and if I had just prayed in faith that night asking Him to reveal His power, He would have been happy to give us a show.
This volcano glow is a reminder that He is always at work and we may not see what’s happening below the surface, but He can bring an eruption anytime and anywhere. We must not forget that God is powerful. He is the creator of the heavens and earth and He can do anything and at anytime!
Are you staring out longingly at a volcano glow?
Pray and ask God to reveal His power to you and your friends. Let us find peace by piece in knowing that even a little distant glow, means that God is still active and alive!
“And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” -John 14:13-14
