Taking a Semester Off

It took a lot to get into the rhythm of school again, and it also took a lot to put a pause on school when I knew my life priorities needed to shift.

As happy as I was to finally get into the swing of things as I hit the mid-way mark of my PhD program, and finally reached my more interesting elective classes, life needed me to take a break from something…

And school was that something.

It was the thing with the least consequences on my family and others depending on me.

This pause on my dream was at first a relief to temporarily put on hold, but then became a bit heartbreaking as I wondered when and if I would ever be able to get back into it?

But that’s what happens sometimes in life. We are heading in one direction that feels so right and then we have to choose. We are forced to stop something in order to start something else or to care for our health, or others, and we know we can’t have it all. We have to prioritize and take action and that might mean not adding more, but taking off.

Do you need to take a “semester” off? Is there something that you know you need to stop or at least put a pause to?

As hard as it may be to let it go, even if only for a while, we can find peace by piece in knowing God knows what’s best for us and even if we can’t see or understand His plans or timing, we can trust in Him the He still has a purpose for us.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” -Romans 8:28
