Peonies at Pike’s Place
I just had to buy a bunch!
While walking through Pike’s Place Market and spotting peonies and the most colorful stands of fresh flowers, it seemed like you had to buy a bunch calling out to you. It was as if it was the right thing to do in the moment to buy a bunch for a friend to enjoy, and for yourself to enjoy holding until then.
After paying and cradling the flowers in your arms, you feel like a beauty queen who just won the crown and received some flowers. As people smile at you as you walk by, (thought they’re not really smiling at you, but at the flowers), you feel like cupping your hands and waving!
Something about beautiful fresh flowers brings smiles. It’s fleeting and doesn’t last, but it’s like for this split moment in time, they’re making their debut. After years below ground in the dark and stuck in the dirt, they have bloomed into their time, their short season of glory to be shown off and enjoyed before they whither and pass away.
I suppose it’s a reminder of life and how fleeting it is and a gentle reminder that in this short time that we have, we should smile, wave, and share beauty with the world!
Life is fragile like a flower and glory is fleeting, but how can we bring smiles in our time on Earth?
Let’s find peace by piece in sharing a smile, saying “Hello,” and drawing attention to our creator and His word that endures forever.
“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” -Isaiah 40:8
