Sea Sick

Everyone who gets sea sick or motion sickness knows, it sucks.

So what can you do to help? That’s what I had to figure out while on my first cruise ship and still felt the rocking despite being on the largest ship, in calm waters, on medication, and wearing pressure point wrist bands! Even while on vacation with a good attitude and distracted with fun activities on the ship, there was no denying the feeling that we were moving around on water.

And then, it got worse when I looked down at the water hitting the side of the ship. I knew instinctively that I had to change my focus and look up and out toward the horizon and not down. And right in that moment, I was reminded how God is always with us. It’s just that sometimes, we’re not looking towards Him and we’re looking down at our own feet and the situation in front of us that feels nauseating!

On the cruise, the most timely physical reminder (literally), was waking up one morning and looking out our balcony through the mist towards the horizon, and spotting a white cross among the trees. As I focused on it, it got closer and closer and I let out a sigh of relief as we docked right by it for some time of rest on shore.

Sometimes we even get physical reminders when we open our eyes and look out to where we need to put our trust.

What are you focusing on that is making you sick?

Let’s find peace by piece by bringing our chin up, and looking out toward the horizon beyond the waves.

“You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them.” -Psalm 89:9
