How To Be Happier At Work

I love my work and some might say it’s because I work in chocolate, or I have my own business, or my business is located in beautiful Manoa in a charming little house, with the sweetest team.

While all that is true, I’ve honestly always loved work. And when I reflect back on some of the reasons why I’ve loved my past jobs with the state, in private companies, in education, in restaurant, in child care, etc, it’s mainly because of the way we view our work and ourselves.

I created this list of what helped me and perhaps it may help you be happier at work too!

  1. Be there to serve.
Every business is in the business of people, so take care of the people you come into contact with. Whether they be customers or coworkers.

  2. Be there to contribute.
When you look at your work as a way to contribute your gifts and talents to others, it can be very rewarding. Find out what the company stands for or the mission or goals of where you are at and how you can add to it.

  3. Be there to teach.
Find someone you can mentor or instill some of the lessons you’ve learned from experience with. Help them to grow.

  4. Be there to learn.
Reach out to others more senior than you, or not, and learn something from their experiences. Everyone has something to offer and even if no one is willing, there are always clues left behind by others whether it be in manuals etc.

  5. Be there to leave the place better than you found it.
In any job you are in, it may be for a short or long season, but make it a goal to leave it better than when you walked into it. Whether you brought the team together, initiated new projects, brought greater awareness to a place, or even made the office more efficient and cuter, do something that you can look back at and be proud of!

finding peace by piece:

You CAN be happier at your work if you decide that you will choose to be happier at your work. :)
