Moms’ Trip
It’s a miracle when you get 6 moms/wives to take time out of their busy lives to not only spend some time together, but to also go on a trip for some fun and refreshment! It was a few years of talking about it before actually planning then doing it, but we went to Portugal!
That’s why you see us strutting through the streets of Lisbon in this photo. Because it’s a rare opportunity and one we didn’t take for granted. We realized how fortunate we were to be supported by our husbands to take some time off so we could not hear “Mommy I need…” “Mom, can you…” “Honey please do this and that.” All we had to do was take care of ourselves.
And to be well for those we love, we need to fill our wells first because we can’t pour from an empty cup. Though it’s not realistic to take adventurous trips like this often, it is important to do little things, like strut in the sunshine for a few minutes to refresh.
To inspire you to do the same however you can now, and to start talking about how you can go bigger in the future, I wanted to share our moms’ trip captured in these photos!
We hired a professional photographer who spent a couple of hours with us walking around the heart of Lisbon, Portugal and captured some beautiful scenery, letting us pose and have fun being “supermodels” for the day, and also getting real shots of us dancing on the open streets and letting loose while we let our iPhones blasted Spice Girls and Nicki Minaj.
We put our heavy bags down and just let loose. We didn’t need to take out our phones because he captured it while we could be in the moment. If you can, I highly recommend hiring a professional lifestyle photographer to capture the memories because who knows when you’ll be able to do this again! Goncalo usually takes photos of individuals traveling or couples on vacation, so it was new for him to try and capture a bunch of ladies who were happy to be free and out and about. I love this one that almost can be captioned with me wondering, “Is this really happening?” Looking up to thank God that He gave us this opportunity and was watching over us abroad and our families back home. I’m also wondering how he got very strong-willed, mostly type-A personality ladies to get along so well for a week together on vacation. I guess it’s because we were rested and not stressed.
Wishing the same rest and refreshment for you too.
And the funniest part is after just a couple of days, I was really missing my kids and family and came home refreshed to fill them up with so much love!
finding peace by piece:
Take a mommy break! Find that friend that you can lean on. The ones you can travel with. Or simply take a little time away from it all to just listen to each other, laugh together, and pray for one another.
