Hiking Again

It has been 7 or 8 months since I’ve been able to hike.

Hiking is a hobby my two kids, husband, and I would do just about once a week since the pandemic and it really helped me to get fresh air outdoors and stay in shape. After my injury last year, hiking was off the table.

So when I was finally clear to go again, I was so excited! AND nervous. There is a little fear I am working to get over of not wanting to get hurt again since I can feel the unsteadiness at times in my right ankle.

We started with a familiar and simple short hike in Manoa. It was THE FASTEST my family ever went. Just last year, I had to wait for my 5 year old son and now, he was way ahead of me.

And it was THE SLOWEST I ever was on a hike.

So put together their fastest and my slowest and that meant my kids and my husband were way ahead then hiding in bushes and jumping out to scare me! (Which was not a good idea but thankfully, I didn’t lose my balance and kept on despite getting occasionally scared on the trail!) :p

This photo of us at the top, represents to me that consistency compounds. You see, this is not my son’s first or second hike. We’ve been taking him for 3 years, and he complained in the beginning, pooped out quickly, and we could never go as far as we’d like. But looking at him now, that consistency has paid off and he led the way on this hike and loves hiking.

That means for me, if I keep at it, I’ll be able to catch up and keep up one day too.

And that goes for you too!!!

What are you slowly trying to progress at? What do you want to do again? Maybe you need this reminder that consistency compounds and to start “hiking again.”

erin’s tip

Consistency compounds. We won’t see the results we want right away, but our bodies will slowly adjust and before you realize it, you’re on an adventure with your loved ones up the mountain!
