City & County Swimming

Don’t know how to swim and always wanted to learn as an adult?

Check out your City & County neighborhood recreation center or park. Free classes are offered throughout the year and that is where I found adult “learn to swim classes.”

I’ve been taking our kids to swim since they were in preschool and after years of sitting on the side of the pool watching them improve, my 7 year old daughter officially got better than me. And I knew it was just a matter of time before them and my water adventure husband would all ditch me for ocean adventures unless I could keep up! :p

I know how to swim, but am not very good, do not have the endurance, and am not even sure I am doing a freestyle stroke correctly. But I do know I want to be able to keep up and definitely help my kids if they need me.

So I sat in line with the seniors at the district park and signed up for the City & County free adult swimming class.

And I loved it!

It was a challenge to try something new and learn something out of my comfort zone at an older age, but was so encouraged by my own kids. And you know what? My kids were encouraged to see me go to a class just like them (and from the same coach) and put in the work and practice. :)

Most City & County parks have “free swim” or “lap swim” hours so you can continue to practice on your own too.

These classes are free so check out what’s available in your community! You will also make friends with neighbors and may just stay friends until it’s time for “senior social club.” And that group in my neighborhood already seem like so much fun!

Stay well and learn to swim!
