Go Have Some Summer Fun

Happy Summer!

It’s that time of year where summer is upon us and as the kids take their break from school, I take that as my cue to take a break from work too. Time to get out in the sun and play!

That’s what we did as kids so why shouldn’t we now?

Truthfully, in the past I grumbled when it was summer as a working mom that couldn’t take 2 months off (and still can’t) an would complain about “What am I going to do with the kids for 8 weeks?!” But now, I know it’s a time to change it up, allow them different activities and opportunities in summer programs, spend more time in the pool, and a reminder to take time off too to spend these precious years running around in the park and hiking later since the sun is up, cooling off at the beach, and treating ourselves to açaí bowls from the farmer’s market while the weather is hot.

If you still find taking some time off to have fun hard to do or don’t have kids, consider hosting family or friends who are visiting Hawai`i and take them out. You’ll find yourself doing things and going places even us locals that live here maybe never take the time to do!!!

We kicked off our summer hosting a family from Japan. My Japan father who I lived with 20 years ago while on a college exchange program in Kobe, retired after many years of hard, hard work and his dream was to come to Hawai`i and do all the things he sees others do in magazines. Surf, paddle board, kayak, go to the beach, and just have fun in the sun!

So that’s just what we did!

I wouldn’t normally choose these activities, but the paddle boarding and kayaking I had to do to keep him company and it turned out being a super fun way to exercise, bond, and de-stress! To read more about where we did this, check out my blog on Wai Kai.

He waited 20 years to get to do this, but if we live here, we can do it today! Time is flying by and no one said we couldn’t enjoy the simple things we once did as kids. Especially if we are working hard to afford living here in Hawai`i, we should also be enjoying the free amenities that are included in our island home!

Finding peace by piece:

Some simple outdoor fun that we used to do in the summer as kids, can still be the perfect remedy we need today! Get out and have some summer fun!
