10 Tips For Motion Sickness

Hey there!

Are you someone who gets major motion sickness or know someone who does? I’ve lived my whole life getting carsick, airsick, and seasick. There are a few things I have learned that really help me when I have to take a long ride or travel and fly and am happy to share with anyone else who struggles with this.

If this sounds crazy to you, then you are a fortunate person who doesn’t experience this. But I swear for me, this all helps so you can use this to help someone else too now.

  1. Fresh air - Let them sit where you can get fresh air blowing on their face. Whether it’s rolling down the windows or giving them a seat at the edge for the breeze, that's a big help.

  2. Fan/Air - If fresh air is not available like in an airplane, consider getting one of these small battery operated fans for like $3 online, or even these cheap hand cranking fans if you might panic about the battery dying. Having the air hit their face is a game changer.

  3. Wrist Bands - This is what I started with as a kid and I’m not sure if they even work or are a placebo effect, but others swear by it.

  4. Ginger Pills - This has been the best thing I discovered because I don’t like dried ginger, ginger gum, or ginger candy, but popping some ginger helps!

  5. Non Drowsy Dramamine - Okay this was a game changer when I discovered this a few years ago and wondered where it had been my whole life. This really really helps me!

  6. Neck Free - Something about not wearing necklaces, or high neck clothing so my neck feels like it has space somehow gives me a little comfort.

  7. Chips & Soda - Choice snack to have on hand is Sprite, Gingerly or 7-Up and a bag of salty chips. No idea why, but something about this is comfort too.

  8. View - Having a view to look out at the horizon and if not available at least a view of a distracting and entertaining TV show is awesome.

  9. Peace and Quiet - Either some light ambiance soothing sounds or no conversation is my preference when I’m not feeling too good.

  10. No Phone - Phones, books, looking down for any reason is a no go so not asking them to do anything, is the best thing you can do for this person.

erin’s tip

Find what works for the person. It’s a game changer to feel empowered to join the world and do things other do and not be held back by motion sickness.

Praying this brought a little peace to your world if you know someone suffering with this, or that someone is you, you’re not alone.

Faith forward my friend.
