USS Arizona Memorial
People from all over the world come to visit the USS Arizona in Hawai`i. And I can understand why.
The last time I came here was for a field trip in maybe the third grade. Now as an adult having experienced much more, I have a much greater appreciation for the history and the significance of this memorial site and the sacrifices that were made by the men during the attack of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
If you want to visit a place that will stir your soul as you contemplate what happened in this spot on that day, the stories of the men, and the lives that did not live to experience the things we do, the USS Arizona will do that for you.
There’s something about being on a little ferry transporting people from all different backgrounds, going to pay respects at the same place. It’s a moment where we all come together with our different life stories and connections, and we are humbled by the site of the sunken warship. We feel immense gratitude to have another day. Another breath.
And even at the visitor’s center, there are small museums of artifacts, photos, videos, and interactive opportunities to learn more. I wish we had had more time to explore the grounds and will probably come back to explore the submarine next time.
Finding peace by piece:
If you haven’t been struggle to find peace with whatever you are going through, this may be a place that will remind you to not take for granted the blessing of another day and another chance to find peace.
