Gig Harbor, Washington
Gig Harbor is a charming little maritime town. And why did we choose this place? Honestly, when we booked our Air B&B for a 40th birthday retreat with the best friends (link here), we looked at the Air B&B house and amenities and not the town it was in. So after we booked it and wondered “What is Gig Harbor known for” and read this description, we were even more excited!
Boy is this description spot on! We had no idea how much we would fall in love with this little town that many in Washington head to for a day trip or quick getaway for lunch with the ladies!
The shops were adorable and the people were so friendly. We only ate at two spots here that the locals recommended, Morso___ and Tide Tavern (21+ and over only where the locals go) and the food at both places were absolutely amazing! Read more about that HERE.
The shops looked like little houses with I swear the sweetest ladies at each that were so happy you stopped in. I particularly loved Local Whimsey owned by two gals, Salena and Caasi who feature local artisans and local products, including their own. They just opened in October 2023 and I basically loved everything in there! Small local stores with artisan crafted goods are my favorite! I also had to deliver some of our chocolates to them to congratulate them on their new business adventure!
Along the harbor was a street lined with cute shops including Dolly Mama who celebrated with cookies and drinks for customers. Directions had the best t-shirts where I got the cutest Gig Harbor blue shirt from Karrie. And Starr and Arrow had trinkets of finds all around. Plus there was art, an old bookstore, and the marine life educational center which was free, educational, and even had a beautiful touch tank for kids.
Of course you can see it all in a day, but this is a place you will want to walk slow. Stroll along the harbor and take some time to talk to the locals. Even if you get lost, the homes are breathtaking in this area, with large green yards, a variety of trees and plants, and the cutest chairs on the porches and grass to sunbath on on days like today.
You were darling Gig Harbor and I hope to come back one day!

Sometimes, it’s the small, quiet and quaint places that help us slow down and appreciate the simple things. And talking to a stranger who is excited to have visitors can bring a smile to both of your faces.
