Camping at Camp Erdman with Friends

Looking for something fun to do in the summer or school breaks with other families and friends?

Our kids wanted to go camping at the beach with their friends, but some of us moms preferred a cabin with a toilet and shower over a tent so checked out YMCA’s Camper Erdman on the North Shore.

Camp Erdman is a familiar spot in Hawai`i for elementary school kids who often take field trips there, but we experienced the side with the yurts, hale, and makai cabins in particular that we booked. It was air conditioned (and thank goodness because we went on an extremely hot weekend), has a shower and sink, and a bed. Very basic, nothing glamorous, but conveniently steps away from the beach, parking right out front, and other families nearby.

Each of the other three families we went with picked a meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner, breakfast), brought the food, and cooked for everyone. If we weren’t cooking or eating, we were spending the rest of the time swimming, lounging around on our fold-out chairs, and crab hunting at night.

Simple summer fun with memories that will last them a lifetime.

The kids absolutely LOVED it! For me, I prefer something a little more glamorous since I don’t particularly like the salt air on my skin and hair and sand tracking into the cabin from our feet, but it was worth it for how much fun they had!

This may be the low-key beach holiday fun you’re looking for!

Finding peace by piece:

Sometimes we may not feel peace on a camping adventure, but we can find some peace and comfort in the conveniences available as we plan activities for the family and friends!
