Setting The Table

Want to make your life a little easier? Find one simple thing you have to do every day, and see if one of you kids can help you do it.

Setting the table is a great home routine to have your kids start helping you from a very young age.

Since our kids could reach the drawer (and we moved the drawer lower so they could start sooner) they started grabbing the plates, cups, and silverware for the table at dinner and our son gets the paper towels.

The paper towels were always so hard to reach and it would usually take him a while or there would be a bit of a struggle and some frustration. Finally, the lightbulb went on! (being very real here).

I bought a paper towel dispenser and put it right on the dining room table. This literally cuts down our walk back and forth every meal time because whenever they eat and whenever they spill, it’s right in front of us so they can help clean up. (Plus our son tends to spill a lot and has a bad habit of wiping his hands on his clothes or our chair!)

And to make setting the table fun to look like a nice restaurant, we bring in flowers from the yard or sometimes treat ourselves to a few and our daughter loves to help makes the arrangement for the centerpiece.

Eating dinner together is a routine we do daily so having the kids help us set the table, makes our lives just a little bit easier while training them to be a part of the home responsibilities too!

Let the kids help. It also empowers them when they can feel like they are contributing to the household.
