A String of Lights

Home should feel like your safe place. A sanctuary where you can unwind and relax.

Well, I am still working on making it that because honestly, our house is such a mess all of the time. It does not feel like a sanctuary.

Sometimes the only place that seems to stay “clean,” is outside.

So for now, a chair and a string of cafe lights I got several Christmases ago, are hung up to provide a little sanctuary outside at home.

I sit next to our mini home garden (my husband’s sanctuary and stress relief), plug in my string of lights, put on the radio (currently playing Christmas music), sit on the chair, enjoy the fresh breeze and let the kids go at it playing in the mud, collecting frogs, flowers, and making a mess where it’s okay.

Similar to setting up my morning routine or evening routine, I hope this can become at least a once a week routine to retreat to and not look at the mess. It’s a place where I can refresh for a bit while my husband waters his garden to refresh and the kids run amuck. It’s something really nice and simple we got to do on Sunday, and sometimes, staying home and doing nothing is a family fun day Sunday that’s needed for our souls!

erin’s tip

Make your own little happy place outside. Even if it’s a small balcony on an apartment, let nature and God’s beauty take care of the rest. The breeze, the blue sky, the greenery. We can pull up a nice chair, play some music, and hang up a string of lights!
