Christmas Tree

A Christmas Tree is a piece of decoration we see in many homes during the Christmas season.

Whether real or fake, large or small, many homes are filled with some kind of tree with lights and decorations. But more than the tree decorating your house, I hope you enjoy the process and everything that comes with that tree to make your house feel like a home.

From picking out the tree or unpacking it, putting the lights around and hanging up the ornaments, to putting the star on the top, plugging it in, and stepping back to soak it all in. The Christmas tree could be a thing that brings people together in your household, or a tradition to bring you some peace on a silent night.

Every year our family picks out a real Christmas tree from a small local business to support. We load it in my hubby’s truck and haul it home. My husband sets it up while I stand back asking him to “Turn it a little more to the right, no the left.” ;p The kids help walk around the tree with the lights to wrap it while we play Christmas music in the background. Then we hang ornaments together. The past few years, all of the ornaments ended up on the bottom half of the tree and honestly, I couldn’t help myself and spread them out later, but this year, the kids were able to get it all over with a step stool and I left it as is. Finally, my husband and I put both kids on our shoulders and together, they put the star on at the top. (Before you say “oh how cute” we learned to do this after a couple of times when they fought about who would get to put the star on top and trying to grab the star first :p)!

Then we plug in the lights and step back to see how it looks.

And every time I look at the lights on our Christmas tree, or any Christmas tree, it reminds me of family. Of the family I grew up with and the family I am raising now. It also reminds me of other families who don’t have a Christmas tree or loved ones around them and the lights remind me to be a light for others going through dark times.

I don’t know who came up with the Christmas Tree and how it all started, but it is a symbol in our house that reminds me that we create the “home” environment and that there are others out there looking for a “home” too that we could invite them to be a part of.

Make the Christmas tree a part of your holiday home tradition. Consider getting a tree for someone else too or inviting them into your home for the holidays.
