Old School Games - Connect 4
For when you just need stuff to do when you’re stuck inside the house!
Old school games still work. :)
The pandemic and the shut down resulted in us going to grandma and grandpa’s to dig up old school board games and things to play with at home. Thankfully they kept some classics and we had a few things laying around our house that we hadn’t touched in years too (playing cards).
There was a lot of bonding and laughter over these very inexpensive paper and plastic pieces, but the one I recommend that we played with the most with a 4 and 6 year old was Connect 4.
The rules were simple. You take turns. You drop in your color. The first person to get 4 in a row, wins. There’s something so satisfying about hearing the plastic pieces fall onto one another and when the game is over and they empty them all to fall out the bottom, it’s like it’s sounding, “Let the fun start all over again!”
And the best part, the kids can set this up on their own to get it ready for you and sort the colors!
The truth is, Connect 4 is my recommendation because it’s pretty easy for you as the adult that you can kind of rest your brain and just sit there while they take a little longer to figure out where to put their pieces. The diagonals are always the hardest for them to spot, but once they get it, then you’re in trouble and it becomes a real thinking game. Now that our daughter is 7, we know. Because she does beat us! :p
Connect 4 will help you connect easily with your kids!

-This is a great game to get someone who has kids who maybe doens’t have a lot of time or energy after work, but who wants to connect with their kid(s)!
