Sand Castles
Ever watch a kid build a sand castle with so much enthusiasm, even though they may know the waves are going to wash it all away eventually? Or that they’ll have to leave it behind when it’s time to leave the beach?
Or perhaps if you grew up here in Hawai`i like me, you’ve experienced this yourself. You’ve built beautiful sand castles, forts, mini pools, and whatever your heart desired and it’s for sure long gone as you read this.
It’s funny though that even as kids grow up and learn from experience, that the waves will come up and “destroy” their castle, or they have to eventually leave it behind because they can’t take it home, they continue to build sand castles anyway.
And with such enthusiasm too!
I was watching my own two not so little, littles, excitedly build their sand castle while well knowing this, and it’s as if God smiled too taking delight in their delight of enjoying the process and not just the finished product.
It’s as if God is reminding us when we see sand castles that this life is temporary, but that doesn’t mean to stop building even when you know the waves will knock you down. That we should leave something behind for the next person who may come walking along the sand. But to enjoy the process of building while we’re still here.
What can you keep on building to leave behind? Can you have more fun in the process too?
Let’s find peace by piece, building one sand castle at a time.
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” -2 Corinthians 14:16-18
