Front Row Seats
I’m a really big fan of Broadway and try to go whenever I can. There’s something about a live performance that just moves your soul. Hearing the orchestra and actors’ singing and watching the dancing unfolding in the moment, plus being surrounded by other people who deeply appreciate the performing arts too is a must at least once in your lifetime to experience.
On my past trip to New York, there were limited seats left to see “Chicago” and two of the seats were in the center in the front row. I was surprised they were available and seeing it was the same price for some of the usual good seats I get further back where you don’t have to cram your neck and look up, I gave it a shot.
And boy was I glad I did!
If there’s a chance to buy front row seats again, I’m going front row all the way!!
Yes, it was close and my neck prefers to sit further back, but there was nothing like a front row experience. You are right there with the performers and can see the little details and nuances in their facial expressions that make it all the more engaging AND they make eye contact with you!
These talented stars interact with the front row! They are professionals and can improv a bit with the audience and usually pick from the front (probably because with all of the lights they can only see the faces in the front row). They also seem to want to read your face to get a gage if you are loving their show or not. With all of their extreme talent, you are reminded in that split second, that they are human just like you too and seeking approval!
And being able to give them feedback with your face is such a honor. A simple exchange of a smile, laugh, or audible shout that they can actually hear for their blood, sweat, and tears, and years of training for these few moments on stage feels like you are congratulating them and thanking them personally for their sacrifice.
Being close meant I felt, saw, and experienced so much more. And that’s what God wants too. For us to get closer. To not watch him as if He’s a spectacle from afar and clap when it’s good, but to be right there, at His feet, smiling up at Him and letting Him know just how good He is. And if we allow Him, He’d like to sit in the front row in our lives too.
Can you get closer to God? He’s offering you front row seats at His feet and He wants to be invited to cheer you on too.
Let’s find peace by piece by taking a front row seat and giving God a front row seat in our lives too.
“Come near to God and he will come near to you.” -James 4:8
