Dead Sunflowers

Did you ever have a vase of dead flowers that sit in your house for days, the water gets super murky, then smelly, and every time you passed by and look at it, you let out a big sigh? And every time you look at the dry dead petals that keep falling, you wonder, “When did it die?” “How come I can’t even keep flowers alive?” and “When will I ever have time to take care of this?”

When I did this exact thing, I knew it was a reminder from God that I was starting to do too much and allowing overwhelm to get the best of me. I knew this feeling because it had happened before. I was starting to let the stresses of work or something, flow into my home life and affect even the little things I normally can handle.

It’s time to make a change.

And so I am.

Will you?

Do you have dead sunflowers sitting around? What is God telling you you need to say no to, or to eliminate from your life so that you can slow down, stay alive and at least change the murky water?

Let’s find peace by piece by giving one thing at a time from our schedules to God, and remember we can’t do everything and be everybody to everyone, but we do need to be still and know that He wants you to have time for sunflowers.

“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.” -Psalm 62:5
