Morale Boosters

Do you have a particularly stressful season at work?

Maybe if you’re in accounting it’s January through April. If you’re in retail it’s November through December. Whenever it is, there is always a season at work where everyone could use a little morale booster.

Here are some ideas for morale boosters that have helped us and our team this holiday season to keep the culture extra cheery in a time when people can sometimes get extra stressed or overwhelmed.

  • Have an encouraging team phrase everyone says daily (We agreed on “We’ve got this!”)

  • Christmas lights & decorations

  • Christmas/upbeat music

  • Food (weekly musubi, pizza orders, dim sum, bento, etc - see blog on “Easy Food for the Crew”)

  • Drinks (coffee, milk teas, soda - stock the refrigerator with their favorites)

  • Overtime pay

  • Team bonus based on one shared goal

  • No staff gifts (our team voted earlier in the year that shopping stresses them out so preferred not to do Secret Santa and will do an activity together instead)

  • Plan a team bonding activity as soon as the season is over (We’re going to do the escape room and a ropes course!)

Just keep in mind it’s not just this season, but you are preparing a culture of positivity, respect, and empathy all year so that in addition to the culture you worked so hard to build, this is just the extra morale boosters to help in especially busier times.
