How To Build A Website & More On Square

Hey there!

Are you starting a business and need to build a website, POS system, inventory management, and the opportunity to sell online? For the past 10+ years, our business at Choco le`a has been using Square.

We went with Square because it came out a couple of years before our business got started and was known to help small businesses. It was also the most visible register system I saw around Hawai`i used by the mom and pop shops I went to. It was a clean white register stand with picture buttons that made it very user friendly.

And since then, we’ve stuck with it mainly because of how easy it is to navigate.

Though we tried other things, this worked for us because we found every POS system has its challenges. Square does have limitations as you grow, but it’s very easy navigate to help you get started.

Here are my four very simple tips to get you started and keep you going!

erin’s tips

  1. Click

  2. Change

  3. Check

  4. Communicate

Click - the buttons. See what it does and learn to do by doing. This system knows the basics of what you need and invites you to click around and try things out.

Change - things up! Change the text. Layout. Add a photo. Change the background. You can always edit and don’t have to worry about getting stuck.

Check - your work. Check out what you created from your customer’s perspective. It’s about them so see how it appears “published.”

Communicate -to others. Remember your website is how you communicate with your customers and the world so do the best you can. Keep it fresh, relevant, and accurate. It’s like rearranging the layout of a store for returning customers and changing out your window display for new customers passing by to attract them in and letting them know what you have.

I have no paid affiliation with Square, but just want to share a tool that worked and still works for us. Pay for what you need and then invest in more as needed. I myself don’t use all of the functions. We take what works for us and our team is how Square has grown with us (just like a small business) in adding even better product options, apps, mobile registers, Apple readers, etc to adapt to changing times and our own needs.

I understand it’s a big decision to make in the beginning of building a business, but hopefully remembering these 4 C’s will help you to get started and keep going when it comes to building a website and a business.

Praying this brings a little peace to your world.

Faith forward my friend.

If you’d like to attend my session “Learning To Build A Website on Square,” I’ll be teaching at the annual Small Business Fair at Leeward Community College.
