Cake Dish Thing

I have to share a simple thing I recently got that has brought me a lot of joy! I don’t even know what this is called so I call it, the “Cake Dish Thing.”

You know that thing you see in fancy people’s houses on the mainland in their big Thanksgiving or holiday set ups on the dining room table with placemats, fabric napkins, long candle sticks, and all the silverware lined up? This is a set up I don’t see here in Hawai`i at the homes of my family and friends growing up.

Well one of those dishes on those long table set ups, has a clear glass cover with a knob on the top and a beautiful cake under it. Sometimes, you see this in holiday Hallmark movies or travel shows in Europe too. It’s a glass cover thing in fancy cake and pastry stores where you can purchase a cake by the slice, they lift the cover, take out a piece, and box it up for you. Sometimes it’s macaroons or croissants. Maybe you know what I’m talking about now?! :p

Well, I saw this cake thing on sale at Target in my favorite Magnolia’s Heart & Hearth section and thought it was so pretty so got one. I wasn’t sure what to do it with until I found I did need it right away when I had some left over pastries that I was trying to save again!

You see, I LOVE pastries and breads and they are always around our house in open pastry bags or ziploc bags when unfinished or taking up big Tupperware containers on our kitchen counter creating clutter. With so many half eaten muffins, scones, breads, and baked goods everywhere all of the time, I found this thing came in so handy and is already used daily! AND, it looks beautiful on my kitchen counter! It’s one of those things that got me saying, “I can’t believe I didn’t get this sooner!”

If you love pastries or sweets and have half open pastry bags cluttering your counter, you need one of these. And my sister-in-law, Laurie, recently gifted me this beautiful placemat and vase and together with this cake thing, it actually makes a nice dining room table centerpiece!

Hmmm….I wonder if I could put our chocolates in here too? :p

Oh by the way, this cake thing is called a cake dome! I literally just looked it up when I got to the end of this.

erin’s tip

Take notice of what you’re wasting plastic bags on or even continuously washing reusable containers on and find something to simplify that. Maybe for you its pastries and breads too! This cake dome keeps everything fresh, clearly visible, and my storage problems are now simplified & beautiful!
