Anne Namba Fashion
Bold, fun prints and elastic pants are one of my favorite looks!
And Anne Namba helped me discover that back in 2012 when I got my first pair of pants as a trade for making and serving chocolates at her fashion show!
I would have never bought them for myself since I didn’t consider myself someone fashionable, but took a chance with the credit I earned and got something from the rack that looked comfortable and screamed “I’m proud of my Japanese culture!”
And seriously everywhere I wore those pants, I received compliments. Even today, I wear the same pants I got over 10 years ago that have been in the wash (and accidentally the dryer) numerous times and I still always get asked from women (and men) young and old, “Where did you get your pants?” I’ve also added several more pairs of pants to my collection! :)
Anne Namba is a local designer who was born in Hawai`i, studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, and she opened her own line of one-of-a-kind garments made from vintage Japanese kimonos and obis in 1989. Her designs have been worn by Aretha Franklin, Vanna White, and other celebrities.
Her shop is located conveniently in Kaka`ako.
What I love best is when I wear them, I feel great! Comfortable, cute, and representing my culture!
