Fanny Packs
As someone who is always on the go running an “Erin,” fanny packs have always been my purse of choice!
For the past 15 years, I’ve preferred a fanny pack over anything adding weight to my shoulders and it allowed me to be hands-free!
When I was a Dance Director, choreographer, and teacher, we were out and about doing public performances and I ran back to back rehearsals at the theatres and wanted to make sure I could focus on kids and not my valuables that were safely on my hip.
When traveling for work, I liked to keep my hands available to touch everything and quickly make purchasing sliding cash and business cards out from right below my belly. I felt safer and less of a target when the things I needed were right in front of me where I could see and feel it.
And then becoming a mom, meant fanny packs were my saving grace.
They weren’t always the “coolest thing” to wear, but I’ve always rocked them because of the comfort and convenience it provided. Especially when bending over to pick things up dropped, pick up the baby, or having to carry a baby around, I didn’t want any more weight or stuff on me.
And then recently, I feel like Aloha Collection and Fighting Eel made it hip again to have a fanny pack aka “hip pack.”
If you don’t know where to start, the one I wear daily is the super light weight, splash proof, one big zipper outside and one small one inside from the Aloha Collection. It’s casual and perfect for school drop offs, quick errands to pick up food or go to the market, and even for exercising taking walks around the block.
And when you wait for their annual Black Friday sale, it’s usually 40% off! Or if you let them know you’re kamaaina, sometimes there are other deals, collabs, and promos going on that you can take advantage of!
For fancy outings, check out Gucci, Prada, or Tory Burch! Or throw your Aloha Collection fanny pack into a nicer bigger purse without transferring anything.
Be hands free and hip for whatever kind of errand you’re running!
erin’s tip
Look at your wallet, keys, phone, and any of the most essential things you carry and test it out in your preferred fanny pack to make sure it’s the right size, shape, etc for you. You don’t want to get anything caught in the zipper and you don’t want it so full that you feel like you have to stuff it every time. You want to make sure the fanny pack you pick, works for your hip lifestyle! :)
