5 Gift Ideas For Little Kids

I write from the experience of having a six year old daughter and a four year old son. These are the things I see them making the most use of and loving!

  1. Books

Good old books. They’re both required to read at least one book a day and log it in their reading logs for school, so it helps to find them books they love. You’ll never know unless you invest in or borrow a variety of genres and topics. Fiction and nonfiction. Things that peak their interest or are just the right level to help them learn to read or challenge them to read a little more. Plus, we read at least one book a night as a family so we go through a lot of books!

  2. Legos

These good old classic toys are still great! I love the plain green square and blocks and a wild imagination that lets them build whatever! There are great themed kits and super great little photo books to teach them how to follow step by step instructions or it can be something to do together, but Legos are still are gold!

  3. Old-School Games

Whether it’s chess, checkers, puzzles, Dominoes, Jenga, or Candy Land, we brought back all of the old-school games in the pandemic when we were stuck at home. One my 4 and 6 year old play often is Connect Four. It’s easy enough for both of them to play and relaxing for me to sit and do without much brain power so I can actually daydream while they strategize and we sit together on the floor. #truth

  4. Art Stuff

Decorating boxes, making signs, cards, and putting them all over the house is still something my kids love to do. So they go through a lot of paper, tape, glue, puffy glitter paints, and other art supplies. And oddly, other things they love are tie twists, ribbon, string, tissue paper, and gift bags! The only downside to this is I find this stuff everywhere so we’re still working on the routine of cleaning up. ;P

  5. Bunk Bed

One big thing like a bunk bed was new for our kids in the pandemic and they absolutely loved it! The top became a ship and the bottom a secret clubhouse/cave where they went for quiet time or to play alone. I’ll admit I enjoyed sleeping a few nights on the top of the bunk bed too. Always wanted one! ;)
