The Story of Staffing
In the very beginning of my business, Choco le`a, I would make the chocolates, pack 20 truffles into a box of whatever flavors I felt like making, and met my 20+ customers at two random locations once a month to meet up and give them the goods. It was a “one-woman show.”
But I knew God was calling me and our business to grow.
One night lying in bed next to my husband, I started to bawl my eyes out in overwhelm. I told him between sobs, “I know in my heart God is calling me to do this, but I just don’t know how the heck I will be able to do it all! I need help!”
Literally within seconds, my husband received a text from his friend, Leo, letting us know he had some time and if we needed help with anything, to let him know. At the same moment, my phone pinged with a text from my mom saying, “If you need help, I can help cut ribbon or sticker boxes or something. Dad and I can help you.”
I broke down and cried even harder. I still didn’t know how this was all going to work out, but I was reminded that God placed amazing people beside me in life that were willing and able to help me. Sometimes, we try to do everything on our own when He wants us to cry out to Him for help.
And so, I asked for help.
And a few friends and dance parents from the work I loved and left behind became our first employees. I still wasn’t sure how I was going to pay them. Only after we decided to trust and move forward anyhow, our first major customer called. It was the Moana Surfrider Hotel. Their request for an ongoing monthly order was just enough to pay my first handful of employees.
It’s amazing how it all worked out. Sometimes we have to say “yes” first and take a step of faith without seeing the whole staircase lit up, and just trust that the next step He shows us is enough.
And since then, there have been seasons of highs and lows and over 70 people I have hired, trained, and led. And yet through it all, God has brought them at just the right time “for such a time as this” -Esther 4:14
Finding peace by piece:
May this story of staffing be a reminder and bring you some peace that there are willing and able people right around you who would be happy to help if you just asked. That you can’t do it alone and you shouldn’t. That the impossible is possible with God. And that the journey will be so much sweeter when shared with others!
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” -Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
