Downtown Honolulu

If you love old historic buildings and appreciate architecture, you need to take a walk through Downtown Honolulu.

It may not have the best reputation as being the cleanest or safest, but if you go during the day and as you walk, stop and look up, there are many beautiful details that you would miss if you were in a hurry or driving by.

I had to find an office in downtown this past week which forced me to park in a municipal lot and walk the streets. But what I found myself doing was pulling out my phone at every building to capture the red bricks, the arched windows, the statues, and all of the details against Hawai`i’s blue sky backdrop.

Even though old and falling apart in places, there’s something peaceful and empowering I find about this place. Like it withstood the hard times, the rough nights, and still overlooks the busy life running around below.

Thank you Downtown Honolulu, and whoever are the people still caring for these beautiful buildings, taking pride in what still stands. I hope you continue to stand the test of time for all to enjoy.

If you’re into architecture, park in a municipal parking lot and take a walk on a weekday morning with a cup of coffee (and maybe chocolates). Even if you don’t have any errands to run, walk slowly, stop, and look up!
