Gunstock Ranch - Horseback
If you love horses, Gunstock seemed to have the variety of experiences I was looking for! And it doesn’t feel too commercial or touristy, but more rugged and the cowboy experience and owned by a local family. The owner’s son took us on our “Sweetheart Ride.”
Ok don’t let the name throw you off, but I booked it for date time since my husband and I both love horses and wanted to not do the usual line trail ride with tourists that we’ve done before! So this one is a private ride just the two of us and our guide, up to the top with an incredible view, a 30 minute picnic on a bench in the shade with a cool breeze, everything provided by them (sandwich, juice, chips, cookie, candy, and sparkling cider - catered from BYU), and the personalized time to learn about the property with a slow ride back.
It was very relaxing. Next time, we will do the horsemanship experience so we can learn how to really ride the horse and try gallopping in the arena etc. For this ride, all we had to learn was right, left, forward, backward. :p
But there are so many options at Gunstock from trail rides, to this sweetheart ride, to the horsemanship learning experience (where we saw actors training since they sometimes have to learn to ride a horse for a movie/part they will film here…pretty cool) and then there are advanced rides from there!
Can’t wait to come back for the next level up!
Erin’s Experience Tips:
Be prepared to get dusty and dirty. It’s a dirt trail so I wore sunglasses that kept the dust out of my eyes.
It can get hot, but I recommend jeans, shoes, and a cool top.
Bring cash to tip your guide. We learned so much about the property and life as a wrangler from our guide and that’s what made the ride very interesting. We were thankful and wanted to bless him afterward!
