Piles of Mess - Cleaning Routines For Kids

I don’t know about you, but one of the absolute most frustrating things for me is the constant mess around the house! I mean I know they are just kids, but no matter how hard I try, there is just an endless mess and things to step over and around with a 3 and 5 year old.

I’ve found that gathering “piles of mess” into manageable piles and stopping the TV or the fun, or withholding a snack until the “piles” are put away, has helped. They do their part when they know what they need to do and there is a very clear beginning and end. Clean up the pile until it’s gone, and the reward comes after.

When I simply used to tell them to “help cleanup” they didn’t see the mess I saw. There was a difference in our expectations and no accountability.

The piles provide a clear expectation of what needs to be done and whose pile is who for accountability.

Where to put the things in the pile…I’m still working on that one and having a designated place for everything! :p

Good luck guys!
