One Step At A Time
Whether you are going up, or down, or feel like you’re just going around and around, God is with you.
These were the famous steps in a beautiful art piece at the Hakone Open-Air Museum visited on my most recent trip to Japan. As I was about to take the circling steps up and up, I noticed there were brightly painted orange footsteps telling me where to put my foot and for some odd reason, that made the climb so much easier as I concentrated on one foot placement at a time, while enjoying the light that shone through the beautiful stained-glass.
That’s when I whispered under my breath, “God, I wish you could guide my steps and lead me to where the light is” to which He responded, “I do.”
I guess I sometimes wish I could see the whole thing laid out before me, but instead, we are sometimes only shown the next step and so the whole journey requires one faithful step at a time.
This “Symphonic Sculpture” by Gabriel Loire (French, 1904-1996) was designed to be a symphony performed by light for guests to enjoy the fractured glass depicting the four different seasons, but for me, it was a reminder that maybe not all of the steps are laid out in front of us as clearly as this, but we know what to do. Take it one step at a time. And keep going. There is light at the top and there is light at the bottom and there is light shining through the cracks because HE is the light.
Are you trying to take something one step at a time too?
Finding peace by piece:
Let’s find some peace in this art piece and allow our minds to wander and accept God’s ways while taking it one faithful step at a time.
