Blue Balance Pad

There’s this squishy blue square mat looking thing at my gym that our coach calls the balance pad. One day, he demonstrated for us a very simple exercise of lifting a weight in one hand while standing on one foot. It looked simple enough….that is, until we had to do it on this balance pad.

As I stepped onto the little unassuming blue pad, I immediately began to wobble. I was thrown off balance and my core immediately tightened and my brain quickly focused as a reaction. I suddenly realized just how much harder this exercise was going to be because of this squishy and very unstable pad.

The exercise itself was simple, but now my foundation had changed. What I had to stand and do it upon, was no longer solid and sure flooring. The squishiness conformed and moved with my foot and made it twice as hard for me, forcing me to find my center and focus.

That’s what life can feel like when we no longer have Christ as our firm foundation. When we are falling all over the place, it is harder to find our center, but it also reminds us to tighten up, and look at where our footing is. Is it rooted in His word?

Are we centered and focusing on God as our foundation? If not, how can we find our balance again?

Let’s find peace by piece by remembering that God is the strength we build upon, even when we feel like we’re going to fall off the blue balance pad.

“Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: ‘The Lord knows those who are his,’ and, Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.’”
