StoryBrand by David Miller
This may sound strange to you, but only recently did I realize that the mindset of an entrepreneur isn’t in everyone. I see the world in a way of opportunities and have a mindset of growth that is so strong, that I thought everyone else thought and felt the same. :(
I’m still learning.
And so that means, if I really want the people around me on my team to be open to opportunities and to grow with me, I have to help them better understand me and trust me and I need to better understand them and learn to trust them.
That requires work, time, and clear communication.
This year in my business, Choco le`a, I am investing a lot more into my team’s professional development as we rebuild the foundation of our business to grow again “post pandemic. “This includes field trips to other businesses to look behind the scenes and ask questions, as well as reading. One of the first books we are reading together is “StoryBrand” by David Miller. Guys, mind blown!
Author, David Miller, was recommended to me by another local small business owner from ProCamera Hawai`i. Thank you Tony! It was such a good read and it blew my mind in helping me understand why no one understands me. I need to tell better stories, not brain dump information on everyone! To help others understand me and what I am trying to say, I need to simplify my communication and make it even clearer. I always knew that, but didn’t really know how until I read, “StoryBrand.” And so, I gave this to my team to read as their second reading for the year.
My frustrations of not feeling like I was communicating well though I felt like I was trying so hard, came from emails, DM’s, and messages of chocolate friends asking us the same questions that were listed everywhere on our website. I guess I was giving people too much information to be extra clear, but too many words was actually causing even more confusion!
Aiya! (Insert emoji of that girl slapping her own forehead)
Like I said, mind blown and you will see some changes to our website to start!
The more we learn about ourselves and how we can add more to this world (sometimes by adding less words), the more we can also invest in those around us who want to grow alongside us. My story and your story can become our story!
Give it a read!
