Hotel Desk & Chair

Recently I was asked, “What’s your favorite hotel here in Hawai`i for a staycation?”

Well, it all depends on your priority or purpose for your staycation. Is it for the view? The service? The pool? The food? The amenities? It all depends on the person and their reason for booking a hotel.

For me, I go to hotels primarily to find a little peace and quiet. Time just for me to reflect, read, write, pray, plan, create, and even force myself to just sit still and listen for God. It’s a time to focus on my work, the long-term game, the vision and the plan and on the flip side, to simply shower, go to the bathroom and sleep by myself. (If you’re a mom of littles, you get it and you just said “Hallelujah Amen!” :p)

So for me, one very important part of the room, is the desk and the chair. No good desk and chair, no book.

Whenever I book a hotel room I first inquire if there’s a desk and chair in the room and while researching, I look for pictures of the desk and chair on their website. I would turn down a free upgrade if it means the “better” room doesn’t have a desk or chair. Better may be better for most, but again it depends on your individual purpose and what brings you peace.

One desk and chair in particular that I LOVE, is at the very new, very sweet and simple, Halepuna Hotel. It has a large and smooth white desk, a good adjustable lamp, an outlet, and the most comfortable chairs. Added bonus, is the spectacular ocean view.

Once, I received a free upgrade from the sweet folks there from my “no view” to a deluxe ocean view, and it came with a room with an extra comfortable chair, but no desk. I called housekeeping and asked them for a little TV tray or some kind of table and they asked what I wanted and I said, “A desk.” And to my surprise, they showed up at my door with a full on desk that I had hoped for and set it up with my chair. Talk about service and peace of mind!

So when someone tells you what you should do or where you should go, first, think to yourself what matters to you? Because I’m pretty sure majority of the people who look for a hotel for a staycation, don’t care about the desk and chair in the room. But for me, that’s what matters and that’s what brings me peace.

Find what brings YOU peace!
