Food in Portugal
Okay, so the food was one of my favorite things about Portugal! It was so simple…just fresh, and delicious ingredients! That’s it and it made me and my tummy happy, and my body feel great! It wasn’t one of those trips where you felt sick after a while eating all the food there. I had no idea I was going to love the food in Portugal so much that I had to just include another blog of photos!
And the food is so affordable. What would be a $200+ meal for us in Hawai`i ended up being about $100. A bottle of wine at a restaurant that would be $40-60 for us was $15 there. I found that I also really enjoyed the wine. It’s not something I drink often, but it seemed to come with every meal so tasted a lot and it was very, very nice.
I don’t eat a lot of shrimp and definitely don’t eat other seafood like octopus and clams, but I did in Portugal because it was so clean and simple. Not super rich and oversaturated with spice or sauces and even the Octopus was tender and soft. It was quite a surprise and I was so proud I got out of my comfort zone and gave it a try!
Enjoy the food from Portugal!
finding peace by piece:
Travel with an open mind and an open mouth! LOL! I didn’t think the food was something I was going to appreciate so much, but I did and I am so glad I ate things I wouldn’t normally not eat at home so I could experience something new and give Portugal a try…literally!
Tasca Tsalo Petiscos Portugueses Tapas (Sintra, Portugal)
This was a quaint little restaurant in Sintra recommended by our guide where we could order little plates and share. It was a nice rest stop and that soup filled with veggies was probably my favorite thing!
Infame (Lisboa, Portugal)
This was the restaurant just downstairs from our 1908 Lisboa Hotel. It came with a morning breakfast buffet + ordering off of the menu and it was absolutely a perfect way to start the day. Once , we also had dinner on a late night that we were just too tired, and we’re so glad we tried it. My jasmine rice, broccolini and fish was perfection.
Impar (Porto, Portugal)
This was a little restaurant where we got to eat right out on the cobblestone streets of Porto and not miss the action all around us. It was recommended by our hotel concierge and just a 2 minute walk from out hotel. Again we just ordered like crazy and picked at plates and ate. We were hungry so didn’t capture as many photos, but it was all good. :p
A Nossa Tradicao (Lisboa, Portugal)
This was a very, very popular seafood restaurant that is always packed. Make reservations ahead of time! This was also just across the street from our 1908 Lisboa hotel and one of the best clams and garlic shrimp ever!
Taberna Dona Antonia (Porto, Portugal)
This was a fun little restaurant we had to find, but we wanted to go where the locals go. They are known for their famous octopus which was soft and tender, but my favorite for sure was the soup! The owner had wine with us and the environment was cozy and lively! It felt like the authentic local’s experience.
Time Out Market (Lisboa, Portugal)
The ultimate foodie stop! A food court with literally everything so you can split up, get what you want, then bring it back to the group and try each other’s food! Highly, highly recommend and here’s where I had one of my favorite things on the trip - what tasted like Portuguese bean soup!
